Learn the basics of how to grow tomatoes in your garden. We will discuss how to prepare your soil, transplant seedlings, trellis tomato vines and how to squeeze the most flavor out of your tomato plants. The workshop is led by Fred Hempel -- co-owner of Baia Nicchia Farm, and tomato breeder for Artisan Seeds. Workshops start with a tour of the farm.
The April 16th breeding workshop will focus on all things tomato, and we will have plenty of seedlings available to take home.

New varieties created on the farm
Baia Nicchia Farm (Sunol, CA) produces new true-breeding varieties of tomatoes and sells them via the Artisan Seeds brand. Buy our true-breeding tomato varieties from Johnny's Selected Seeds. They will carry seeds for seven of our "Artisan" cherry tomato varieties this coming year! Seeds will be available November 15th, when Johnny's new catalog goes live. Plants, and grafted plants of our varieties are available at Garden Life, Log House Plants and Plug Connection. For wholesale seed, please contact AP Whaley Seed.
This online store will not carry the Artisan Seeds tomato varieties that are available through Johnny's Selected Seeds. We will, however, carry exceptional true-breeding tomato varieties that are not currently sold at Johnny's. We will also carry land-races of other selected crops that we grow at our farm in Sunol. These landraces have been of particular value to Baia Nicchia and are featured at our farmers' market, and in Bay Area restaurants.
